Episode 5: What’s ”attachment” got to do with it?
Why do we often repeat negative patterns as we search for love? Whether it's chasing someone unavailable or picking a new partner whose shortcomings echo those of our last partner.
Attachment patterns may explain this. They are part of the emotional system in our brain that motivates us to maintain close relationships. And they can prompt us to avoid close relationships if our history suggests to us that closeness is unsafe.
In this episode of Late Bloomin' Love, Dr. Tim Farmer explains the four main attachment patterns common to all humans and offers some strategies to work with them if they undermine our desire to create a close connection with someone.
Dr. Farmer is a professor at Concordia University in Montreal who teaches developmental psychology. He also had a private practice as a therapist.
